Q:  Do you feel the fact that these two 
communication greats came from Canada stems 
from the reality that this is a huge country in 
which communication is crucial?

A:  In a sense, that question is unanswerable in the 
end. My take is that it matters very much that 
Innis and McLuhan came from Canada, very much. 
But I think we have to look at them in slightly 
different ways, because they were very different 
figures. Innis, for example, grew up in a rural 
environment that was more oral than most 
environments, although very similar to what one
